Breast lift versus breast augmentationMany women visit our office asking for a breast augmentation when what they actually need is a lift. These are two very different and distinct procedures. With an augmentation, we enhance the breast size for enlargement by inserting silicone implants under the breast tissue. With a breast lift, we do not add anything to enhance the shape of the breasts. This is a patient’s own breast tissue that we lift and shape. While both can create attractive breasts, it is important to select the right procedure for a patient’s individual needs.
Who benefits from a breast lift?Typically, a person who will most benefit from a lift is someone who has breasts that are already large. For example, most patients with less than a C cup are not interested in having a lift because their breast tissue may not be as large as they would like it to be. However, anyone who prefers the overall size of their breasts but wants them to be perkier, more round or to remain up without wearing a bra, can benefit from this procedure. We frequently perform this procedure on women who:
- Have had multiple children
- Feel that their breasts started sagging due to breastfeeding
- Have lost weight but still have sagging breasts
- Feel that their breasts started sagging as they got older
